Wing Foiling Lessons a 22-Minute Drive From Bradenton
North Skyway Beach in St. Petersburg is about a 22-minute drive from Bradenton, the shortest trip of our three nearby service areas. We teach wing foiling there from October to May, 7 days a week when it’s windy, and every lesson includes two-way radio coaching, jet ski support, and all the gear you need. If you have your own wetsuit, please bring it. If not, we provide one at no extra cost.
Skyway Beach sits where Tampa Bay meets the Gulf of Mexico, with shallow, beginner-friendly water in the bay. No matter which direction the wind is blowing, there are places to get out on the water, which lets us make the most of every windy day. In St. Petersburg we typically need around 11kt+ to wing foil.
You don’t need to be super athletic. Students must be at least 12 years old and able to swim, and we match the wing, board, and foil to your size and the day’s wind.

Learn setup, dry land wing control, wind theory, and points of sail. Practice cruising upwind on your knees, transition from kneeling to standing, and hold your balance while managing the wing.

Get comfortable riding the hydrofoil while being towed behind a jet ski. A must-do for beginners who are learning to wing.

Dale is the best wind sports instructor I have ever had. In two lessons, he took me from zero Wingfoil experience to comfortably foiling upwind. Great experience. Have had an interest in trying kite surfing for a while. Found out I was going to Sarasota recently for a trip that was going to have some down time around required events. On a whim, I contacted Dale to see if there was a way to fit some lessons in around my (fairly constrained) schedule and he was very helpful in figuring out how to make some intro lessons work. Dale's instruction is top-notch. I am brand new to the sport and being tethered to the kite took a little mental getting used to. Dale took time to make sure I remained comfortable as we advanced through the lessons and I felt thoroughly prepared for each step up. For anyone even thinking about kite surfing, I recommend you go try. It was a great experience and I plan to stick with it.

I’ve had 3 or 4 lessons in several countries and nothing compares to lessons with SAK
Dale is in direct communication while your kiting via as small walkie-talkie on your vest. This leads to instant feedback on your riding and prepping for a turnaround which I needed to learn. I can confidently say I got it after 1 lesson and perfected on the second. Also brushed up on safety procedures which I needed.

SA Kitesurfing is the best! Dale is a great instructor and Skyway Beach is a great place to learn. Utilizing a jet ski and walkie talkie is so helpful when you’re learning and saved a lot of time! I was up and riding on day 2 (for a while at least!), and Dale’s patience as I repeated mistakes was inspiring. I’ve been watching Kitesurfers in awe for years and I finally got to do it! Dale was a great instructor. By the end of my 2nd lesson I was able to ride short distances on the board. The walkie-talkie communication was extremely helpful as he can constantly help you troubleshoot how to improve your skills while in the water. I had a lesson scheduled on a day where the winds just weren’t cooperating but he still took the time to meet me at the beach in the off-chance the forecast was wrong (which unfortunately it was not). 10/10 recommend

Dale is the man. I traveled across the country just to learn to kiteboard in the tampa area for a week. I had one other well reviewed instructor in the area before meeting Dale. He squeezed me in on my last day and I learned more from him in one day vs three from others. He explains things well and can answer any kiteboarding question. He corrected my issue and had me riding upwind confidently. Highly recommended!

I had a superb refresher lesson with Dale at the St. Pete's location. It might be the most ideal setup imaginable... shallow flat water with an outstanding instructor following you on a Jetski. I've had other lessons, but this was by far my most fun and beneficial.

SA Kitesurf is a great group to train with. I had the opportunity to learn to kitesurf with 2 sessions in Lyle WA east of Hood River and just completed my 3rd near the Skyway in St Pete FL with Dale. I recommend getting into lessons if you think you'd enjoy the sport. I have no regrets!
